JULY
Silvermine Art Center Workshop
Painting Your Narrative: Illuminated Memories as Your Own Aesthetic
https://silvermineart.asapconnected.com/#CourseGroupID=48723
July 15-18
10:00 am - 4:00 pm
Bonnard and Matisse, each in their own way, did not necessarily paint to record; instead, each reconstructed painterly elements based on their personal fondness for their subject.
In this 4-day workshop, you will explore how to move through your Illuminated Memories to create a symbolic representation of your subject, capturing the uniqueness of the moment in a visual narrative. We will focus on creating stories in paint that unite us, as we are today, with those cherished memories. You will learn, develop, and experience new usages of personalized color, texture, form, and shape as tools to compose your perspective in re-remembering to capture the illuminated moment, leaving an image of literalness on the canvas in celebrating life.
Students will experiment with idea generators such as thought poems, word sketches, displayed thinking, personalized palettes, and the effective use of preparatory sketches and studies through a reflective process before entering into wash drawing and painting in their selected media. There will be lectures on the different schools of applications, from impressionism, post-impressionism, and fauvism up to the abstraction methods to consider, demonstrations on the application of materials, and one-on-one attention. Students are welcome to bring personal photographs and/or artwork from which to work.
